Taking on Change with a Brave Heart and Joyful Spirit

After 33 years in the same home, the walls that have held my memories, my family’s laughter, even our tears, are about to say goodbye. Moving isn’t just about packing boxes or changing addresses, it’s about stepping into the unknown, and that feels both terrifying and thrilling all at once. It’s about letting go, surrendering to the unknown and trusting in the future.

I won’t pretend it’s easy. Sometimes, the fear creeps in like a shadow on the wall. What if I lose the comfort I’ve known for decades? What if the new place doesn’t feel like home? What if I’m not ready to live alone for the first time in my life? Anxiety whispers doubts that can feel overwhelming. But then, just as quickly, a spark of something else lights up inside me: curiosity. The possibility of new adventures, new stories waiting to be written, new friends and new parts of myself waiting to be discovered.

Maybe this dance between fear and excitement is where life happens. It’s raw, it’s real, and it is most definitely scary. But perhaps, it can be beautiful at the same time. What I’m learning is that I don’t have to wait for the fear to disappear before I can welcome the joy. I can hold both at the same
time. I can be scared and brave. I can feel uncertain and hopeful. I can honor the past while inviting the future. This almost sounds impossible, doesn’t it?

But But for right now, I am choosing to infuse my life with the excitement of the unknown. Instead of resisting change, I’m leaning into it—letting go of the need to control every outcome and instead… surrender to the flow of life’s surprises. It’s a practice of trust: trusting myself, trusting the journey, trusting that whatever comes next is exactly what I need.

It’s also in having the wisdom to trust that everything that has happened in my past happened the way it was supposed to. Even more… it’s about having faith in knowing that everything to come is happening right on time, just the way it should.

I remind myself of all I’ve done to get here, the resilience, the lessons, the growth. That history is my foundation, my proof that I can navigate whatever comes my way. I am proud of the woman I’ve become, and I carry that pride with me like a shield and a light.

To keep these positive feelings alive and steady, I’ve found two daily practices especially powerful: First, every morning I write a simple intention for the day. It doesn’t have to be grand, sometimes it’s as small as “I will notice beauty today,” or “I will be kind to myself.” This tiny act helps me start the day grounded in purpose and positivity, reminding me that I have the power to shape my experience no matter what’s happening around me.

Second, each evening I take a moment to reflect on one thing that surprised me, made me feel thankful or made me smile during the day. It could be a kind word from a stranger, a new song I discovered, or simply the way the sunlight hit the leaves outside my window. It’s all about what made me feel grateful on this day. Ask Alexa to help with this, she’s right there in my living room every night at 8pm to remind me.

These practices rewire my mind to look for joy and curiosity even in the ordinary, helping those uplifting feelings stick instead of floundering when life gets tough. To anyone standing at the edge of their own change, unsure of what the future holds, I say this: be gentle with yourself. Let go of the fear that tries to hold you back. Grab onto curiosity like a lifeline. Be brave enough to say, “I don’t know what’s
next, and that’s okay.”

There is freedom in surrender. There is joy in discovery. And there is peace in knowing that life’s new chapters are gifts waiting to be unwrapped.

So, here’s to the unknown and to the fresh starts. To the endless possibilities that come when we open our hearts and minds wide. May we all find the ease and joy in moving forward, and may every new day be a celebration of the courage it takes to live fully and fearlessly.

All our adventures are just beginning—and they are yours to create. After all, today is the first day of the rest of your life. Enjoy the magic!
